Ultrasun Biography
Still
fresh to the dance scene, UltraSun have fast become
favourites. Purveyors of a new style of uplifting vocal trance, the
Melbourne duo have already made their mark on the charts, with a
string of live performances and remixes to their name.
Far
from the manufactured trance act cliché, UltraSun have
a wealth of skill and experience behind their popularity. Combining
inspired songwriting and solid production techniques with the
dynamics of live vocals, the pair’s approach to music has won
them broad appeal on a global level, and a reputation for both
accessibility and integrity.

Comprised
of guitarist/ singer/ songwriter, Katie Michaelson, and DJ/
producer, Christos, UltraSun were signed to Ministry of
Sound in late 2002, their first single ‘Love Me More’
making a promising debut on Australia’s dance charts. The
release, which includes remixes by German producer, DJ Tom,
and Sheltershed’s Wil Foster (US), debuted at Number 12
on the ARIA dance charts, Number 2 in Sanity’s Dance Arena and
reached Number 4 at Central Station Records. The single enjoyed radio
play all over the country, was included on Clubber’s Guide
to Ibiza 2002 and found a place amongst Oakenfold and Armin van
Buuren on the Ministry of Sound 2003 Annual, mixed by none
other than UltraSun.
‘Love
Me More’ paved the way for club performances, bringing the
unique element of live vox to make for shows of world-class standard.
With Katie singing and Christos manning the laptop and keys, the pair
have performed at Heat for NOVA 100 FM, the Dome’s White Party
at QBH, and supported Ferry Corsten and Tall Paul on
Ministry of Sound’s Annual 2003 Tour. They’ve also proven
en vouge with the next generation of clubbers, appearing live
on national TV for Channel [V]’s cult program, Room 208.

With
over five years’ worth of experience as a singer and
songwriter, Katie’s credentials merely hint at her vocal
dexterity, which must be witnessed live to be truly appreciated.
Complementary to this is Christos’ technical prowess, his
classical music training manifest in expert production, with tracks
remixed for Supafly (‘Erotic City’), DJ Panos
(‘Lover’) and Iio (‘At the End’).
Christos continues to remix under the UltraSun guise, and is
currently working on remixes for Central Station and UK label All
Around the World.
The
next thing for UltraSun is the release of follow-up single,
‘We Can Runaway’, another choice pairing of killer vox
and spot-on production. The single includes remixes by Voodoo
& Serano (UK), our own Alex K, a highly anticipated Christos
Club Mix and a bonus remix by Sonic State (USA) of ‘Love Me
More’. Plus, to show off Katie’s amazing voice, the
release will also feature an acoustic version, a timely addition for
the European summer. Something to watch out for is the videoclip that
accompanies the single. Created by 11 of the best up-and-coming
animators, it makes for a visual component as impressive as the track
itself.
All-in-all,
UltraSun
have made a firm foundation for their continued rise through the
dance scene, with each successive performance, remix and release
affirming their status as a hot new commodity.
